The Izu Islands belonging to the Tokyo metropolis has a

history of paying tax using salt instead of rice.

Salt work is an important activity of people and the large salt

field was proof that the islandʼs living was supported by it.

In this design, we will rebuild the traditional culture and

activities of the island through saltwork, involving islanders

and strangers. By supporting the food, requiring dwelling,

reconsidering the work of people through salt spreading to

the island’s network, we propose the possibility of building

by Salt field architecture and seek the social image of the

island country Japan.
