The thesis project focuses on the Arctic Circle and investigates novel construction methods and materials in response to climate change. Specifically, the project explores alternative methods for constructing ports in the region by utilizing sea ice. Throughout this design project, I have sought to develop both a structural system together with a strategy for its deployment -working with the natural growth and retreat of sea ice.

This approach seeks to enhance the flexibility and sustainability of port expansions, allowing for both future growth and obsolescence.

The project questions the land reclamation construction method of the port design in the Arctic Circle, aiming to use a floating structure to work with context natural resources- (Sea Ice) to construct the port in a way that can reduce the carbon footprint and be suitable for the sustainability of Arctic development. The structural system consists of three main components: a framework of cooling ducts, an inner skin of sea ice, and an ablative layering of insulating Pykrete.
