Architects in Metropolis

At the very beginning of my thesis project, I reviewed my perceptions toward the mechanism of the metropolis. There appears to be certain preposterous yet somehow reasonable phenomena taking place. Such phenomena are both subjective and objective, bordering between contradiction and complexity. Questions about the city and society, the role of design space in this; it may not be a statement or an answer, but a mode that can accommodate the agitation and discussion of various viewpoints. My thesis design will be centering around those interested in discussion, to see how people spawns a city and how the city talks.
I selected the Dong-men market, a historical renewing site, to operate the following designing system. The system is consist of data mining, volume planning and space subdivisions. With the execution of the system, Dong-men Market will be able to interact with the urban context throughout the gradual replanning process.
The system algorithm will output a best proposal to practice on site, finding out the one that fits in the floor area needs the most whilst causing least negative effects to the existing vendors. Both public fields and market volumes are considered into the programing, providing multiple space possibilities. By generating new spaces for both existing and unforeseen programs to settle in, further developments or plannings can be planted in the nearby area as well.
In the rear, applying data and computation into the design is not aimed to reconsider what type of ability will be replaced, but instead to try to bring about a way for human and computer to work as one. It envisions a new type of architecture that details in both timeline and space, incorporating all the concerned parties into the design process, the emergence of metropolis.
