Every time I walked around the street of Tokyo, a uniformity of glass windows would barge into my sight violently. The only image that is shown in these windows is the reflections of the sky, which is somehow suffocating. Such scenes of glass windows are so common that I can’t help to notice how boring it is. Although people’s lives are supported by machines like equipment, piping, energy, and structures, their existences are not tangible in our daily lives. When the infrastructure facility is the trunk while the concrete slabs are the leaves that exist for humans, a “great tree” with miscellaneous aspects is represented in the city. In my work, I intend to reveal the fascination of Akihabara that is fading over the years, as well as the challenges of modern cities. By doing so, it not only rebuilds the relationship between machines and humans but also revives by depending on their relationship to establish a vigorous symbol standing on the ground. The cycle between humans and machines will propagate, allowing this self-sufficient city as a new model to surge around Japan.

I think that people’s identities can only be established by the manifestation of machines, and I dare to propose architecture based on infrastructure facilities in cities. Structural and environmental trunks will free architecture for humans and free the desires of those who are beginning to be oppressed in Akiba. Its appearance is like a big tree full of life. In this proposal, the water purification plant, sewage treatment plant, garbage treatment plant, waste power plant, and wind power plant were the basis of the proposal against the background of pollution problems of the Kanda River and waste treatment problems in the city. These are the key players behind the lives of people in the city. With infrastructure facilities as the core, slaves for human life will regain their free form and succeed in increasing the nature of the streets and diverseness. As a result, the walls and roofs of the dwelling will be removed from the structure, allowing people to set up dwellings in their favorite slabs and have an active way of living. It is a revival of the lost vitality. Akiba has allowed new cultures from time to time. They coexist and are layered to create a miscellaneous landscape. This proposal, which rolls up Akiba’s unique ” the nature of the streets and diverseness that accepts all personalities,” brings about a new and symbolic landscape and harmonizes with it. In addition, PCs and figure shops have multiple stores such as “No. 〇 store”, and we regard the fact that the entire city is migratory as a feature of Akihabara and expect to meet others by walking around. The target site of this proposal is surrounded by the Old Manseibashi Station, the Kanda River, and the Electric Town, and is an important place for inheriting the Akiba culture and landscape. In addition, the energy generated here will be distributed not only to the main building but also to the surrounding areas, expanding the energy cycle. The basis was a water purification plant, a sewage treatment plant, a garbage treatment plant, a waste power plant, and a wind power plant. These are the key players behind the lives of people in the city. The integration of infrastructure will completely change the urban system that relies heavily on rural areas. We propose a new city that enables self-sufficiency. Design the infrastructure that supports the city as the foundation of the building. Slabs, such as residences, where people’s whereabouts are formed will be attached to the infrastructure. No one has the same shape, and no one has the same landscape. People choose their favorite place and start living, as if they lived in a road or a park. This building, which allows the characteristics of Akiba, will be a place to express the individuality that is oppressed in the city, and will also be a place to meet the individuality of others. In this way, human vitality is revived. |
