亡者烙下的喘息地

 

當城市發展得越靠近墳場，墳場的意義也隨著它們之間的

距離產生改變。禁忌與迷信根深蒂固於華人的文化裡，城

市因此不願意與墳場建立任何的空間聯繫。縱然香港的密

度緊逼城市貼著墳場的邊緣發展，它們之間的領域被一道

擋土牆分隔著。城市發展努力躲避着墳場的同時，卻讓這

龐大的墓園在寸金尺土的城市裡留下了寬闊的喘息地。這

矛盾的現象會隨著城市與墳場之間日漸退縮的距離而加劇，

而生者與亡者的界限該如何重新定義?墳場與城市的邊緣

也該如何被審視？

Cemetery in Hong Kong is an open space that will not be

removed from its original setting, under the circumstances of

our taboo towards death. Cemetery performs as an urban

anchor which resists the pressure of urban development,

and eventually transformed into various scales sacred voids

within the dense context, as the urban substances grow

radically. The cemetery in close proximity to the urban,

however still remain as a demarcated segment from the city,

with an edge in between that can be reached through a hand

gripping distance. My thesis questions the potentials in Hong

Kong’s cemeteries as an infrastructure, through redefining

the limit of boundary between the cemetery and the city.

With cemetery stemmed as a burn mark in the city, along the

demand of growing capacity for the death and living, the two

eventually will collide! This is the opportunity for the new

boundaries in between to rise.
