Take military dependent’s villages for example; they were served as temporary housings for soldiers at the time, hence all units were built in a standardization and minimal living space. With limited spaces and resources, how to provide the maximal functions and facilities was the main concern for the planner at the time.

However, with the declining population, the demand for spaces has decreases; on the other hand, unutilized spaces increases.

With that being the case, citizens’ needs with regard to housing unit and neighbourhood has changed as well. Therefore, we choose the most populated.

Through scheduled demolition and residents’ relocation, we are trying to propose a new living prototype and rethink the relationship between public space and urban residential area.

We aim to create a mutually beneficial relationship between public and private spaces by expanding the public area rather than privately-owned area. It helps creating sense of community and unique community culture in the neighbourhood.

Through various different space experience, it increases residents’ sense of belonging and the quality of life, which can further inspire them to pursue autonomy in their living space and community. Thus, we propose the project of “shall we meet at our regular place”.
